你可能更感兴趣于学习更多关于Linux和Firefox的东西，而所需要的就是从微软和它的产品集合中转变，不太复杂的，且无须花费太大努力就能让一切正常运行。
但同时，很多的用户却对学习使用Linux没有兴趣。他们只是想要一个这样的操作系统，能让他们接收电子邮件、浏览网页，以及运行一些简单的办公应用程序。
那么对于只是想要一台工作电脑，而不怎么关注KDE和GNOME之间的区别的用户，下面我将列举几个最适合他们的Linux版本。
对于Linux，开始使用并最容易上手的方法就在Robin“Roblimo”Miller的书中。Robin帮助用户通过基础来使用Linux。即使你把这本书给你的母亲，她都能通过它使用Linux。其中附带的光盘中，Robin会向你演示如何从基础开始，许多用户甚至不需要翻阅书本就能轻易开始操作。
这本书包含了一个较早版本的MEPIS Linux，但这个版本仍然很实用。它在一些十分低配置的系统上运行也有着得天独厚的单方面优势。我的系统仅有着128 MB内存和早期的1.5 GHz Pentium IV处理器，我在这样的系统上也顺利运行过它。对于那些除非电脑生锈都不想购买新电脑的家庭用户来说，这不失为一个理想的选择。
若想要一个Linux看起来有着Windows XP的外观和样式，我则推荐Xandros Linux的家庭版本。这个基于Debian的分发版本也许会使Linux的骨灰级用户感到失望，但对于那些仅仅在寻找一个Windows替代品的用户来说，它真的是很棒的。
Xandros Desktop Linux 4.0Premium带有CodeWeavers Inc.的Crossover Office 5.03 Standard版本。有了它，你就可以运行很多大众的Windows应用程序。这其中包含了Office 2000和2003，Quicken 2004还有iTunes 5.01。
这个Xandros distribution的分发版本还包含着Versora Progression Desktop，一个由Windows向Linux迁徙的工具。通过它你可以将基本的系统设置转向Linux，例如你的墙纸和屏幕保护。它也能够将你的电子邮件和文档从Windows的应用程序中转到它们在Linux中同等之处。例如，你可以将Outlook处理的电子邮件转移到Evolution或者Thunderbiird中处理，也可以将Word文档转成OpenOffice.org格式。
从另一个角度来说，如果你所想要的是能在Linux系统上合法地播放尽量多的Windows专属的媒体文件，Freespire则是你应该选择的分发版本。只要一个设备或文件格式在技术上与合法性上能为Linux支持，Freespire就一定能支持它。例如，它支持专利性的硬件，例如WiFi卡，也支持专利性的媒体格式，例如Windows Media格式。
这些听起来也许对你们当中一些人并不是什么大不了的事。但是，如果一个用户，他不知道，也不想知道那些关于安装了ipw2100的韧体才能使一台Centrino-based膝上电脑通过本地WiFi工作的细节，也不想知道如何得到Windows Media的特定编码，那么这带给他的获益则是巨大的。
大多数人只想要一台能够工作的计算机，而不是一台需要让他们工作的计算机。Freespire在这点上无疑是优胜的。
所说的这些最好的Linux适合每个人吗？并不是的，虽然我会说，在我的工作中曾使用过上述三个版本中的全部，对它们中的每一个我也都感到相当满意。
